Warren Township High School officials have set aside $250,000 for technology improvements, such as computers, in a tentative budget for the 1994-95 school year.
A public hearing on the $20 million budget has been scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Aug. 30 at the school, 500 N. O’Plaine Rd., with the board formally voting on the budget at 7 p.m.
The $250,000 capital outlay for technology is part of the $11.8 million education fund.
“We wanted to have the line item expendable in the budget, but it doesn’t give the board the authority to spend it yet,” said Patrick McMahon, superintendent of Warren District 121. “Our technology committee will bring recommendations back to the board for approval.”
The committee’s initial recommendations are expected by late September.
The education fund also includes $4.7 million for teacher salaries, $2.7 million for administrative and extracurricular salaries, and $470,706 for supplies and instructional materials.
Transportation expenditures of $2.3 million include a capital outlay of $1.3 million, the result of a district decision to buy 15 buses this year instead of leasing them. The district has estimated the purchase would save $30,000 to $60,000 in leasing costs.
The budget also projects $3.4 million in operations and maintenance expenses, with $974,314 from last year’s surplus fund balance.
