Bridgestone/Firestone, where unionized rubber workers have been on strike since mid-July, said it plans to start hiring permanent production workers at three tire plants affected by the five-week strike. The United Rubber Workers union said it has filed an unfair labor practice charge. Some 4,000 URW members went on strike at five Bridgestone/Firestone facilities July 12. Bridgestone/Firestone said it would start hiring permanent workers Thursday.
