More than two-thirds of U.S. homes have two or more TV sets and 82 percent have at least one VCR, according to a survey of home technology sponsored by ABC, CBS, NBC and the National Association of Broadcasters.
Among newer technologies, 25 percent of homes have a personal computer, 13 percent have a cellular phone and 4 percent own a fax machine.
Yet when asked about “interactive TV,” only 36 percent of the 3,131-home random sample said they were aware of it, and 27 percent could define it.
Of proposed interactive services, 30 percent of respondents were interested in “movies on demand.” No other service offer came close.
