Basic common sense reveals that this country is in a self-destruct mode.
Witness the front-page headline of the Tribune, Aug. 26: “Crime bill OKd.” Opposite this was a full-color picture from “Natural Born Killers” (with the characters holding vicious-looking weapons) to be shown at your local cinema. Our violence-prone society can now cram its mind with a 52-murder rampage (even if in part satire!) or the audience can go “over the edge,” as one movie reviewer stated.
With our society shooting itself in the foot daily, billions of dollars invested in a crime prevention bill looks shallow, if not ludicrous, indeed.
