The Tribune is to be applauded for its recent editorials urging the opening of dialogue and establishing of normal relations with the government of Cuba.

Our government’s 35-year-old policy of bullying and vindictiveness has achieved none of its stated objectives. But by its conspiring with reactionaries, gangsters and rogue spies, it has only brought discredit to our own country.

In a world where we can no longer claim to be threatened by any serious adversary, our government can well afford to be, if not generous, at least sensible and fair.
