I am thoroughly disgusted by the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore beach closings.
I was at the beach with my children the day prior to a beach closing and one child got sick the next day. Since it takes 24 hours to incubate a bacteriological water quality test, the beach was probably polluted the day I was there, and the polluted water sickened my child, although the beach didn’t close until the following day when the test was complete.
More than 20 years after the passage of the Clean Water Act, the nearest national lakeshore has polluted beaches. Indiana will not see my tourism/recreation dollars until it cleans up its act.
