The Treasury Department has levied penalties totaling $30,000 against two Chicago-area banks and a currency exchange for failing to comply with the Bank Secrecy Act. LaSalle National Bank paid a $5,000 penalty, and First National Bank of Chicago Heights paid a $20,000 penalty for failing to file currency transaction reports under the act, the department said. The New Damen and Grand Currency Exchange paid a $5,000 penalty.
