You might be tempted to drive by this unassuming building containing 6 town home units on Green Bay Road. That’s because the unit’s more appealing selling points are on the inside.

Among the attractions are a newly updated, open kitchen, an exposed brick wall that extends from the living room into the kitchen, and a skylight in a staircase that leads from the first to the second floor.

To reach the town home, you must walk up several steps of an outdoor staircase. The brown iron staircase looks aged and matches the burnished brick of the building’s exterior. There is space for a small garden near the foot of the staircase, as well as a narrow lawn in a courtyard at the center between this building and one next door.

As you enter the unit for rent, you find yourself standing in a white tiled foyer. Guests dropping by to watch a Chicago Bears game would check their jackets or coats in a closet that is concealed behind a white door with gold knobs.

They would take a couple steps to the right and find themselves standing in the living room. This 19-by-16-foot space is large enough to hold a sofa, a couple of chairs and a large screen television. It has a slate-gray carpet.

If the excitement of the game calls for a breath of fresh air, you can open a sliding glass door at one end of the living room. Though there is no balcony, there is an exterior iron railing for safety.

The living room also has an exposed brick wall that extends from near the sliding glass door into the kitchen. The kitchen, which is about 9 by 8 feet, used to be an enclosed room, but the unit’s owner recently opened it up by tearing down the walls.

The open kitchen is perfect for entertaining. A cook could prepare chili, a taco salad or other food while not missing a minute of the football game. The kitchen has a white tile floor and a white tile breakfast bar. Guests who want to nibble while watching the game could pull a stool up to the bar. The kitchen has white cabinets and an almond refrigerator, dishwasher and oven. Above the sink are windows that overlook an alley.

Just next to the kitchen is the dining room, which also has windows overlooking the alley. This would be the spot to set up chips and salsa for munching during the game. A door from the dining room leads to the basement and a two-car garage.

Returning to the living room you’ll find a staircase that leads to the bedrooms upstairs. Even during a party, this area can remain private because your guests can use the powder room at the foot of the staircase. This bathroom has a white tile floor, a beige/white marble sink and white cabinets and toilet.

Walking up the stairs, your eye is drawn to the ceiling, where a skylight floods the stairway with sunlight and brightens the second floor.

The bedrooms measure 12 by 11 feet and 12 by 13, respectively. Like the living room, they have slate-gray carpet and sliding glass doors. These glass doors, however, lead onto balconies. The most prized room would be the one with the balcony overlooking the grassy courtyard, rather than the alley. Sleeping in either room with the glass doors open would be pleasant on a breezy summer or early fall night. Both rooms have large, double size closets.

The full bathroom is at the end of the hallway. Its color scheme is much like the powder room’s, but it has a glass-enclosed shower. A large closet next to the bathroom conceals a washer/dryer.
