I have been reading Mike Royko’s columns regularly for more than 20 years, and I am a great fan of his Chicagoland savvy and his marvelous writing style. In all of those columns, I have never been as moved as I have been by Mr. Royko’s Sept. 2 piece regarding the short life and violent death of Robert Sandifer.
In several concise paragraphs, Mr. Royko presented a comprehensive overview of the various problems, social currents, legal factors and political trends that have influenced the continuing degradation of society’s commitment to its children.
