You published a story about William Kristol’s call to Republicans to vigorously oppose Bill Clinton’s policies (Sept. 8). You suggested this would cause gridlock.
What nonsense! The suggestion that the Republicans alone can stall, block or kill the president’s agenda is ludicrous. The Democrats control the presidency and both houses of Congress by large and comfortable margins. If the Democrats in Congress were united behind the president, then Clinton should be able to push through his programs.
The Republicans alone cannot stop them. If the president is having trouble passing his agenda, it is because he cannot control or unite the members of his own party. Let’s have more factual reporting and balanced political analysis.
