Whose side are you on? The caption under the front-page picture (Sept. 19) of Jimmy Carter refers to Emile Jonassaint as “Haitian President Emile Jonassaint.”
Without being abusive, you might have identified Jonassaint as “junta representative Emile Jonassaint” or-as former President Carter was identified in the picture-simply by his name, “Emile Jonassaint.” Surely at this late date the Tribune does not want to withdraw recognition from Haitian President Aristide, the democratically elected head of the legitimate government.
The Tribune article itself refers to Jonassaint as “president of the de facto government” which accurately identifies his position in relation to the strongmen who put him there.
