I want to express how very good was the recent series, “Unlocking the mind,” by Ronald Kotulak. Although there has been considerable news coverage of the many discoveries in Alzheimer’s research in recent years, most people are probably more confused than enlightened about what it all means. Articles like these are rare, but very valuable in summarizing the significant advances, tying them together and explaining in understandable language what this all means.

People respond to solid information like this on Alzheimer’s disease with many more questions and desire for even more information. That’s why calls to our 800-number have grown steadily. In 1992, we answered 45,000 calls and this year we’ve already topped 100,000. We provide people with current information on research, caregiving, drug trials and referrals to local chapters and support groups.

It would be a consumer service to publish our number (800-272-3900) and also to let them know how to contact the Chicago area chapter at (708-933-2413).
