The often-criticized U.S. Postal Service should be commended for helping to stamp out smoking by deleting the cigarette that appeared in the photo used in the stamp commemorating jazz guitarist Robert Johnson.
Stamps commemorating persons should not depict harmful habits. Our nation’s youth get enough exposure to smoking through being bombarded with Joe Camel and Virginia Slims type ads. The Postal Service should follow the lead of more than 40 other countries by issuing a stamp discouraging smoking.
