Ameritech named Oren G. Shaffer, 52, as its new chief financial officer beginning Monday.
Shaffer, who served as chief financial officer and other roles at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. from 1968 to 1992, most recently has been president of Virgo Cap, an investment firm based in Naples, Fla., with investments in Europe and China.
Shaffer replaces John A. Edwardson, who left Ameritech in July to become president of United Airlines. Shaffer also has served as a United Nations adviser to businesses in China. Richard C. Notebaert, Ameritech chief executive, stressed Shaffer’s experience in overseas investment in announcing the appointment.
In another development Tuesday, Ameritech announced that it will offer three new video products to businesses. The new services, which for the most part require dedicated lines to operate, are intended to enable businesses to arrange video conferences more easily, as well as to exchange other video information such as medical images.
Television broadcasters, ad agencies and film producers are targets for the video services.
