Three cheers for Mayor Daley’s suggestion on privatizing public education. But why stop there? It’s the perfect “not my problem” solution to every other aspect of government too. In fact, let’s just privatize Chicago’s city government.
There must be any number of management think tanks that will absolutely guarantee to solve everything if you just give them the tax money, then come back in 10 years for a progress report. After all, you can’t expect overnight results from a new management team. We didn’t when repeatedly the Cubs were rebuilt over the last 50 years, and educating Chicago’s children is at least half that tough.
Too bad the mayor’s suggestion is not a referendum in the November election. Maybe we can just write “Privatize City Hall” as our write-in option.
