More than 250 people are expected to gather Sunday in Bensenville for a dinner intended to bring the Hispanic community together with their government representatives.
“We want to take the message to the Hispanic and non-Hispanic community that active participation is the key to addressing the needs of the community,” said Dr. Javier Moreno, president of the Bensenville-based Hispanics in Action.
The keynote speaker will be state Sen. Jesus Garcia (D-Chicago). Also expected to be in attendance is Atty. Gen.-elect Jim Ryan, as well as representatives from the village governments and the school districts that serve Bensenville and Wood Dale.
The dinner will be at Monty’s Banquets, 703 S. York Rd.
“This is an opportunity for the community to come together to address common issues,” Moreno said.
Issues that Moreno said are of top interest in the community include education, housing, police relations and immigration.
Hispanics in Action is a 2-year-old organization that has been active in citizenship education and gang prevention.
