It doesn’t have to be just a clock.

There are scores of artist-made and really unusual timekeepers out there that make great gifts, because they are functional and amusing or quizzical or just plain conversation-producing.

“Nowadays people have clocks in almost every room of the house,” says Peggy Wolf, co-owner of Chiaroscuro, a Chicago gallery that specializes in functional arts. “It’s a way to bring a lot of whimsy into the house with a really practical item.”
