John McIntyre (Voice of the people, Dec. 8) classes people who wish one another “Happy Holidays” instead of “Merry Christmas” with Scrooge, presumably meaning not merely cranky but selfish and wicked.

Apparently he has failed to notice that Christians share this society with Jews, Moslems, Buddhists and nonbelievers, for whom the word “holidays” is simply a matter of accuracy.

His letter serves to demonstrate that the notion of voluntary school prayer is an absurd one: Even the smallest deviation from the majority’s way of doing things produces pressure to conform.
