The Illinois Supreme Court has set March 22 as the execution date for James Free Jr., who was sentenced to death in 1979 for killing one woman and wounding another in a Glen Ellyn office building.

Armed with a handgun, Free had accosted the women and told them he intended to rape them.

Free has virtually exhausted appeals in state and federal court.
