This is an open letter thanking the people of Chicago for their generosity to the Chicago Public School All-City Elementary Youth Chorus. Fifty-five chorus members from 4th through 9th grade left in mid-December for a concert tour to Vienna.
An extraordinary donation of $26,700 from Ralph Gadiel of International Resourcing Services in Northbrook closed the fund-raising campaign, which also received $1,000 donations from Channel 5, Butternut Bread and a chorus parent.
However, most of the $81,000 raised came as donations under $50 and from dollar-a-bar candy sales and car washes. Truly, the people of Chicago love their public school children and are ready to support excellence.
