Joan Beck’s “Japan should quit trying to distort WWII history” (Op-Ed, Dec. 8) took issue with the Japanese for being upset over the proposed U.S. postage stamp with a mushroom cloud and the caption “Atomic bombs hasten war’s end.”

I welcomed the Japanese objections (which Beck saw as the Japanese promoting their “self-serving perversions of history”). I, too, found the stamp insensitive and an inappropriate way to commemorate our bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
