Construction spending increased 0.7 percent in November, the Commerce Department said Wednesday, the fourth straight gain despite rising interest rates. Spending on residential, non-residential and government projects totaled $522.7 billion at a seasonally adjusted annual rate. Spending had totaled a revised $518.9 billion annual rate in October, when outlays rose 0.9 percent. The latest advance meant that outlays in November were 6.6 percent above those of a year ago.
