Orders to U.S. factories surged 2.6 percent in November, in a rebound led by stronger demand for automobiles and airplanes. The Commerce Department said Thursday the November advance was the largest since a 4.7 percent jump in August. Orders had slipped 0.4 percent in October, the first drop since July. New orders, a key gauge of the nation’s manufacturing sector, have risen in 13 of the last 16 months. Commerce said that, excluding the volatile transportation component, orders still rose 1.2 percent in November.
