Allstate Insurance Co. said it plans to drop 20,000 policyholders in western Florida as part of a broader plan to eliminate 52,000 homeowner policies in the state. “Hurricane Andrew taught us a lot of hard lessons,” said a spokesman for the Northbrook-based insurer. “We have to take care of our customers all over the country, not just in any one state.”
