The Postal Service has been saying again and again that its new rate increases are less than inflation. However, I recently got my Postal Bulletin regarding the increases and they are much more than the inflation rate. Perhaps someone entered the wrong figures?

I own a small business that uses 3rd Class and Library Rate. For example, a 10-ounce package in 3rd Class used to be $1.44; now it will be $2.39, an increase of 66 percent. This is more than inflation.

This same package used to be $0.66 via the Library Rate; now it will be $1.12, an increase of 70 percent. Again, this is more than the inflation rate. (I assume we are talking of the inflation rate here in America, and not some place like Brazil.)
