A unit of the Samsung group, South Korea’s leading industrial and electronic conglomerate, said it will invest $1 billion to make computer memory chips in the United States. Samsung Electronics Co. said it is aiming to begin production in 1998. Other details, including the site, haven’t been decided, a spokesman said.
