Being a retired teacher of a suburban school district, I wasn’t particularly surprised by the major goof made in the yearly calendar and approved by the Downers Grove school boards, necessitating student attendance on a holiday (Jan. 2).
May I suggest, however, that each board member write 100 times, “When Christmas and New Year’s fall on a Sunday, the following MONDAY is a national holiday.”
This should be written in their best cursive handwriting, double-spaced, signed by one of their children or even a grandchild, and turned in at a special assembly.
