The Getaway: Somewhere-anywhere-warm for the weekend. Surf and sand should do the trick.
The Goal: To get as much sun and fun as possible while looking as chic as possible wearing as few clothes as possible.
The Means to Achieve Said Goal: One weekend tote and a few travel-worthy pieces in basic black and white that transform themselves in an instant.
Since you’ll be leaving your worries-not to mention your brain-at home, thinking about clothes on your mini-vacation is a definite no-no. Lots of patterns are out. Fussy linen is a waste of precious time. So leave that iron at home.
What you can bring: Wrinkle-proof fabrics in rayon, lycra or cotton knits pulled from the resort department at your favorite store. A pair of sandals and a pair of sneakers. A flippy sundress masquerades as cocktail attire or as a cover-up. A long-sleeved tee covers up too and looks snazzy when paired with easy silk pants. A cropped cotton sweater keeps the wind at bay during a midnight stroll on the beach and is perfectly cozy for the plane ride home. And a shorts-and-jacket combo has many lives when separated or paired together.
Throw in a bathing suit or two, and you’re good to go.
Oh, and don’t forget: Sunblock is the de rigueur accessory.
