Alliant Techsystems Inc., a major supplier of munitions to the U.S. government, said it will slash its work force by 20 percent and take a $38 million charge in a cost-cutting program. The Minneapolis company, which employs 4,500 people throughout the U.S., said the move stems from sharp reductions in U.S. defense spending.
