A Chicago man who exited his truck on a roadway to retrieve lost articles was killed early Tuesday when he was struck by a car, authorities said.
Edgar Perez, 47, was pronounced dead at the scene on Lake-Cook Road near Wilmot Road, said Lake County Coroner Barbara Richardson.
Authorities said Perez, whose last known address was in the 2000 block of West 21st Place, was driving a pickup truck westbound on Lake-Cook when several boxes of computer paper fell off the truck. Perez reportedly parked the truck to pick up the boxes, and was struck from behind by a westbound car. No charges had been filed Tuesday against the 59-year-old Northbrook man who drove into Perez, authorities said.
Perez, who suffered a fractured neck, was pinned in between the two vehicles, police said. Perez had his emergency hazard lights activated at the time, police said.
