I cannot believe the Chicago Tribune would support the destruction of yet another of the irreplaceable architectural treasures along Michigan Avenue, just for the sake of a Nordstrom store. Not to mention the callow description of the 520 N. Michigan Ave. building as “eye-pleasing but hopelessly obsolete.” One could say the same of Tribune Tower.
Why not rehabilitate the existing building (such as Nike Town or the Sony store did) into a Nordstrom on the first few floors, then utilize the remaining floors as offices or turn them into condominiums or apartments? It could truly be a showplace.
