Bosses, when your employees call in sick, you can be 76 percent sure they are.
On the other hand, that means a quarter of such sick calls are from deadbeats, goldbricks or outright hypochondriacs.
That’s what Accountants on Call discovered in a survey that the Gallup Organization did for them. Some other discoveries:
– 15 percent confess they pull off a phony sick call at least once a year.
– 9 percent admit they do it three times a year.
– 7 percent call in 3 to 5 times.
– 1 percent does it six times or more.
There was no gender difference in sick calls, but workers under 30 are more likely-40 percent-to call in sick when they’re not, as are part-timers.
