In regard to the abortion bill facing the state legislature that asks that physicians inform parents of their daughters’ choice to have an abortion: Where does this leave the guy who got the young woman pregnant?
While this could be a devastating confession for a young woman, it is a completely anonymous act for the man involved. He is absolved from his responsibility in the sex act. What is it that we are teaching our young men about responsibility?
Abortion may not be the best alternative, and giving young women 48 hours of reflection on what they are about to do may have its merit, but sooner or later we are going to have to stop punishing the woman for something she is only 50 percent responsible for. Kids are having sex, and we as adults and mentors have to quit denying this and teach them about responsibility before they are faced with the question of abortion and parental consent.
