We have again seen what money can do in the Cook County court system, and again it has ended in a sad outcome. The Steven Pfiel case is noteworthy in two respects.
A high bond had kept the suspected murderer of a 13-year-old Palos Hills girl in jail where he belonged, but then a judge allowed bail to be reduced low enough for his parents to post it.
Now we have another death at the hands of this sick person, this time a family member, and another family member hurt.
Former neighbors and the mother of the 13-year-old girl that he had previously been accused of murdering had pleaded that he not be given the bond, but another all-wise judge swept their pleas aside.
Now there will be another funeral and a judge trying to cover his posterior.
This is another sad reminder that justice in Cook County isn’t justice at all. It’s just who has the money.
