The City Council has given final approval to a 46-lot subdivision on the 86 acres north of Gage Lane between Waukegan Road and U.S. Highway 41.
The council’s unanimous acceptance of the LeWa Farms subdivision, which will be geared toward “empty nesters,” was conditional upon the Building Review Board first approving the appearance and overall character of the proposed homes.
City officials and the developer, Barry Carroll of Carroll International Corp., spent months working together to create an acceptable layout for the subdivision. In September, the Council lauded Carroll’s plans to place the home’s garages in the back yards, creating a private alley.
Carroll also has offered more than 50 acres next to the subdivision to be preserved as open space.
