The City Council has approved a preliminary plat for a 500-home residential development-the largest ever in the municipality.
The project is slated to be built on 223 acres in the northwest corner of Harvard by Target Builders, Lemont.
The council stipulated that it would allow the developers to build no more than 50 homes a year until the project’s completion.
The city is considering no other residential developments at this time because of a one-year moratorium on new annexations for single-family home subdivisions. The development under consideration Tuesday is in Harvard, so it is exempt from the moratorium.
