I would like to do something shocking and come to the defense of the First National Bank of Chicago.

The inflammatory reporting of possible surcharges for teller visits has poorly portrayed the facts.

If people took the time to research the facts they would find that the changes in policy would save money for the average customer because they would not only include a certain number of free teller visits per month but also reduce fees on ATM visits. The proposed fees are aimed at people who waste tellers’ time and increase lines for people who only need to see a teller three or four times a month.

I suggest that the press and First Chicago customers re-examine the facts before raining down their condemnation.
