For the second time in two meetings, Mayor David Van Geest’s nomination for a new 3rd Ward alderman was stricken from the Village Board’s agenda at the last minute.
The action-or lack of it-came Thursday night amid rumblings from some board members that Van Geest had been too secretive about the nomination process.
Apparently in response to that criticism, Van Geest said he took the nomination off the agenda to give his nominee a chance in the next several weeks to meet with all the city’s aldermen.
The mayor has wanted to appoint seven-year resident Karen Wilson to the post that opened when Van Geest was elected mayor in April.
Ald. Lane Moyer, one of the critics of Van Geest’s nominating process, said he wants to meet with Wilson and anyone else who wants the seat. However, Van Geest said, “This is not a menu selection. It’s who I choose to nominate.”
