Officials of Prospect High School pleaded with the Township High School District 214 Board of Education Thursday night, citing concerns that their swim program is in an unsanitary facility at Wheeling High School.

Students from the girls’ and boys’ swim teams have been sharing the Neptune Pool at Wheeling High School with Wheeling students for the past six years. According to Prospect Principal Michael Stevens, several health concerns during the past swim season have prompted the school to search for an alternative.

“It’s a question of health,” said Loretta Lopez, whose daughter is a member of the Prospect swim team. “It’s not the locker rooms we’re complaining about. The girls were having skin reactions.”

Prospect High School officials said they are negotiating with the Mt. Prospect Park District with hopes of renting the RecPlex Pool at an estimated cost of $9,000 for the swim season.
