I have a solution for President Clinton concerning the massive tariffs we are ready to impose on the Japanese for their luxury cars so demanded in this country.
Why don’t we build a car equal in quality to the Lexus, Acura, Infiniti, etc., and sell them at a price competitive with these luxury imports? Then we would not have to import so many foreign cars. Maybe we could even export a few to the Japanese.
Tariffs have always impeded free and open markets, and usually make matters worse. Let’s get with it. Free and open competition are what solve these problems, not tariffs.
