In a deal that also involves the assumption of $15 million in debrt obligations, Tampa Shipyards Inc. has been sold for $5 million in cash to Delphi American Maritime Inc.

The deal Authority matched an offer from Tampa businessmen Carl and George Lorton, who entered into a tentative agreement with American Ship in mid-April. That deal expired without the two sides reaching agreement.

Delphi is a newly formed subsidiary of Forum Maritime SA, the shipping division of the Forum Group, a diversified holding company based in Piraeus, Greece.

Forum Maritime, which claims to be the largest private shipping company in the world, says it has 20 cargo vessels afloat and an additional 20 in various stages of construction at shipyards around the world.

The company plans to complete those vessels at Tampa Shipyards.
