Blackhawk Bob Probert has settled his problems with the law and next season he should be able to get back on the ice.

Probert has been sentenced to deferred adjudication after a Texas prosecution for resisting arrest and assault. His record will be expunged if he successfully completes his probation.

Probert pleaded no contest on May 15 to charges that he resisted arrest when police investigated a report that a male bouncer had been assaulted at a Dallas bar. He had faced a Sept. 2 trial in the case.

Robert R. Smith, Probert’s lawyer, said prosecutors later dropped a misdemeanor assault charge. Probert faces up to one year in jail, along with a fine, if he does not successfully complete his probation on the misdemeanor count of resisting arrest.

The 29-year-old Probert received deferred adjudication on two years’ supervised probation, a spokeswoman for County Criminal Court Judge Dick Cunningham said Thursday.
