A few weeks ago I happened to read the reply of Mr. David Isaac (Voice, May 26) to a May 17 editorial. I was quite astonished to note how Mr. Isaac twisted historical facts.

Mr. Isaac has claimed that Jerusalem is not mentioned once in the Muslims’ Holy Book of Koran and, therefore, Jerusalem could not be a holy place to Muslims. In other words, what he is trying to establish is that since Jews claim Jerusalem as their sacred place, no other nation has a right to claim it as their sacred place also.

If Mr. Isaac would have read our Holy Book of Koran, he would not dare to make such a false comment. I invite his attention to the very beginning of Chapter 17 of Holy Koran, which is titled “Children of Israel” (Bani Israel). In the first verse of the above chapter, Allah the Almighty specifically mentions the sacred place Masjid-Al-Aqsa, which is in Jerusalem.

Therefore, the editorial rightly suggested that Jerusalem is as important to Muslims as it is to Judaism, and therefore the transfer of the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem is nothing but jeopardizing the current peace process.

Furthermore, no Arab state wants the destruction of Israel. Rather, every citizen of every Arab state wants the right to exist with peace and harmony with neighboring Israel, and that’s what the peace process is all about.
