Construction is under way at the Townhomes at Central Park Place, a development of 12 residential units in downtown Wilmette on the former site of the Pioneer Press building.

A project of Chicago-based Churchill Venture Ltd., it is located at 1232 Central Ave. and is expected to be completed early next year.

Four floor plans are offered, ranging from 2,072 to 2,207 square feet. They will have two or three bedrooms and 2 1/2 or 3 1/2 baths. Preconstruction prices range from $387,464 to $404,760.

The three-story brick exteriors will feature limestone detailing. A landscaped courtyard will run through the center of the development. Owners will have either a backyard patio or cedar deck.

Inside, amenities include oak hardwood flooring, crown moldings, and 9 1/2-foot ceilings on the first floor. Wall-to-wall carpeting on the second and third levels is standard, as is central air conditioning and a gas-starter fireplace in the living room. Each unit will have an underground two-car garage.

– The first eight buyers who purchase townhouses this weekend at Country Place in Bartlett and Winchester Trails in Naperville will receive $6,000 toward the purchase of options at each development.

Options include air conditioning, fireplaces, and upgraded carpet, appliances, kitchen cabinets, flooring, and wood packages. Both communities are being developed by Westmont-based Montalbano Homes.

Winchester Trails, which consists of 44 two-story townhomes, features five floor plans, ranging in size from 1,302 to 1,712 square feet. The homes are priced from $129,990 to $156,990, and include two to four bedrooms, 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 baths, and one- or two-car garages. The community currently is 40 percent sold.

Country Place offers five floor plans, ranging in size from 1,302 to 1,712 square feet and in price from $119,990 to $145,990. The townhomes include two or three bedrooms, 1 1/2 or 2 1/2 baths, one-or two-car garages, and basements. The 144-unit development is approaching a closeout with only 15 homes remaining.

– As part of its 60th year anniversary celebration, DiMucci Development Corp. is offering free central air conditioning at Park View in northwest suburban Round Lake.

When complete, the subdivision will have 142 single-family homes.

Six floor plans, including a ranch and five two-story designs, are offered at Park View, priced from $141,400 to $168,990 and ranging in size from 1,533 to 2,135 square feet. Homes have three to four bedrooms and 2 to 2 1/2 baths.

– U.S. Housing Markets, a publication of Lomas Mortgage USA, predicts that residential building permits in Illinois will total 45,500 in 1995, a 7.7 percent decline from 1994.

“Cheaper mortgages will ease some of the pain of this year’s slump in housing,” according to the report. “Working against home builders and sellers, however, will be a softening job market and uncertainty about the nation’s economic future.”

– Classic Homes by Pasquinelli reports sales of more than 60 percent at Butterfield Place, a community of single-family homes in north suburban Zion. Only 22 homes remain to be sold.

When complete, the subdivision will include 60 homes, priced from $115,990 to $126,990.

Four designs including one ranch, two split-level and one two-story plan are offered, ranging from 1,285 to 1,900 square feet with three to four bedrooms and one to three baths.

To visit Butterfield Place, take Interstate Highway 294 or U.S. Highway 41 north, east on Illinois Highway 173 for 4 1/2 miles to the sales center on the north side of the street.

When complete, it will include 36 townhomes. Preconstruction prices range from $168,900 to $180,500.
