Write stuff: Elgin High School senior Peter Noback, 18, is joining the likes of writer Joyce Carol Oates in Washington, D.C., this weekend when he reads his fiction and poetry at the Library of Congress.
Noback of Elgin is one of 31 student winners in The Scholastic Writing Awards sponsored by the Scholastic Book Co. of New York City.
Noback plans to major in economics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, but he isn’t ruling out a writing career.
“Putting your observations down on paper gives another person a chance to relate to it,” he said.
