Herbert C. Gwinn, 90, the former executive vice president of finance for the Sunbeam Corp., died at home Sunday in River Forest. He attended the Walton School of Commerce in Chicago before joining Sunbeam in 1930. He later became treasurer and controller. In 1956, he was elected vice president in charge of finance and continued in that position until the early 1980s. In those years, the appliance manufacturer went from being a $5 million firm to one that did $1.5 billion worth of business annually. His brother, Robert, who had joined the company in 1936, became president in 1956 and subsequently was named chairman and chief executive officer of Sunbeam. Mr. Gwinn was a director at Protection Mutual as well as the Heico Corp. Survivors, besides his brother, include a daughter, Diane Schaaf; and a grandson. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Drechsler-Brown Funeral Home, 203 S. Marion St., Oak Park. Services will be at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday in Grace Lutheran Church, 7300 Division St., River Forest.
