The Village Board has approved an application for a $350,000 community block grant to fund the construction of a senior citizens center at 35th Street and Hopkins Avenue.

Village President Louis Sherman said Steger will contribute $300,000 toward the project, which will include a meeting room and kitchen facilities.

“It seems like every community around here has something for its seniors except us,” he said. “I think this facility would really help.”

Construction is scheduled to begin in the spring of 1996 and take about six months to complete.
