Library officials anticipate a Sept. 24 date for dedication of the expanded children’s department and the business and reference department.
Library director Lynn O’Dell told board members Wednesday night that although much of the work is moving ahead on schedule, there have been numerous problems with installation of the electrical wiring and fixtures. “It looks rather ominous for the electrical work,” she said. “I think we are looking at an August completion date for the work.”
Until all the electrical work has been completed in the new business and reference section, which is located in the former garage of the library, patrons are not allowed to enter, she said.
She also said that the library has been notified by the Illinois Department of Labor of a complaint by an electrician concerning the wages he was paid. “He claims that he was not paid the prevailing rate of wages,” she said, “which, because the library is a governmental unit, the subcontractor is required to pay.”
She said that legal counsel has advised her to turn over documentation that the state has required.
Newly elected Trustee Laura Pollastrini wondered if the library would be held liable if there is indeed a problem. O’Dell said that she was not sure what would happen. O’Dell also said the lawyer did advise her to receive authorization from the contractor, Dillon Enterprises Ltd., before releasing the documents to the state.
