Harry Kontos, 87, co-owner of Harry’s Restaurant at the Fox Bend Golf Course in Oswego, died Friday at his Oswego home after a long battle with cancer. A native of Arcadia, Greece, Mr. Kontos came to the U.S. in 1924 and worked as a chef at the Blackhawk Restaurant in Chicago. He then opened the Marine Grill in downtown Aurora, which he operated until he opened Harry’s in 1963. Mr. Kontos also was the founder of St. Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church in Aurora and a president of the Order of Ahepa (American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association), Chapter 332. He is survived by his wife, Ruby; two sons, Michael and Bill; and a daughter, Georgianne Griparis. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at St. Athanasios, 1855 E. 5th Ave., Aurora. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church.
