The defense in the O.J. Simpson case Tuesday used a prosecution witness, a police lab technician, to bolster its contention that evidence was sloppily and nonchalantly packaged and stored. Denise Lewis acknowledged under cross-examination by attorney Robert Blasier that some bags and envelopes received from the Los Angeles County coroner’s officer got scant identification. Blasier noted that a bag of hair from victim Ronald Goldman was labeled only “hair.” Asked if she would use such a terse designation, Lewis said she would not. She also acknowledged that a pair of white athletic socks worn by Goldman were not placed in separate bags but were contained in a bag with Goldman’s bloodstained pants.
